Literary merit is how good the work is in terms of use of character and storyline development, figures of writing (metaphor, simile, hyperbole, etc.), climax, suspense, foreshadowing, frame story, story archetypes, realism, and breaking of stock characters and avoidance of cliches. Analysis should be insightful, solidly crafted, and generative of an aura. Works should generally be long (especially stories and scripts) in order to develop all the forementioned objectives.
