I'm working on a new main page at User:Yunzhong Hou/New Main Page. Maybe someday it will be accepted. Until then, it'll be my personal main page...

I'm planning to have my New Main Page become the main page after all, if it's okay with you contributors. Simultaneous changes:
- Replace main Page with User:Yunzhong Hou/New Main Page
- Shift active stories from sidebar to Template:Active Fiction
- Revise the navigation part of sidebar to reflect the fact that New Main Page has many of them included already
- Add welcome to the sitenotice (which can be dismissed by regular contributors)
- Remove the search engine from the sitenotice, as the search box on the sidebar would move up without the active stories list
What do you think? Want to give it a try?
I've already made my bookmark of this place be the recent changes,so main page doesn't effect me.Don't make the welcome be in the sitenotice,unless you have a code to check if its an IP and even then that'll just waste bandwidth.I liked the search bar at the top,but I guess its true that the annoying active stories will be shifted.May I ask that RandomPage be restored to the sidebar?Serprex 18:23, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Sure, randompage is okay at sidebar, though kind of useless since most of the results would drop you in the middle of a story rather than its beginning.
So, instead of having the welcome at the sitenotice, I guess I'll just keep the search engine there, plus a couple of links. Is that dismiss link shifting the links in the middle so that they take up 4 lines on your screen? Active fiction can be consolidated to the "recent 5", same with popular fiction. What do you think about that?

Okay, I've reworked the main page at Welcome to Novelas. Take a look at it and ask yourself if it wouldn't be superior to the current main page! It's a lot neater, a lot more graceful, and focuses attention to newcomers. 00:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
