Well? Is it or isn't time to feature something new? Lament of Val-Tymia has been up there for a while now. F.<話して~!!>05:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I've gta remember quotes AND featuring?Where did Nonimportant the doer go?Oh well...User:Serprex 23:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I've noticed that too! It's like we get 3 new users, and we lose one--as what happened with YZH, but he came back. Now it's Nonimportant. Wow. --Fythring 19:37, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

How's this--how about you let me handle the featuring? It isn't so big of a task, and we only have to do it every 2 or 3 months. Whaddya say? F.<話して~!!>05:46, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Volunteering so that I have even less things to do?Sounds awsomeUser:Serprex 19:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

CHAPTER1=CHOOSE JOR NOMINYZ![]

  • Faith in Burns by User:S503486 --YZHSig   22:37, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
    • I don't know, but Long Livveth Poj just doesn't seem proper for Novelas' feature story position. Oh, and did we explore all the ancient works on this site?

You're right. There are some older works that need recognition. I'll look into it right away. --Fythring 01:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

How about Trials of Destiny? It's apparently the longest thing on Novelas. --Fythring 01:30, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

  • It's not just that it's the longest thing on Novelas. It's also an example of above-average writing on this site. I vote for it too. YZHSig   22:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Sept. 28[]

So. What's next? I was thinking Converging Fates. YZHSig   00:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes,ExMachina had some insight and serious skill.Too bad he joined the vanishedUser:Serprex 01:35, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Damn it. Seems I forgot about this other job. Well, when was Mr Fortunate last nominated? I say now we post new feature fiction once every month. But that will be hard, since now we're getting quite a bit of crap. F.<話して~!!>20:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

We still have a huge archive of works to draw upon, and many of them aren't bad. YZHSig   14:48, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Of course. Now that February is coming, I should look into a few of them. F.<話して~!!> 14:52, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I think you have a good taste for fiction quality, judging from your edits and stories. Why don't you go ahead and update the feature fiction section with whatever story you choose. YZHSig   14:59, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but I'd want peoples' opinions before rushing into action. F.<話して~!!> 15:09, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmm... Well then first tell us what you have in mind. I don't want to say whatever work I like because 1) I haven't made any decision yet and 2) it'll influence your own decision. YZHSig   15:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Already chose Vamps by Swannie...wherever he or she went. F.<話して~!!> 15:37, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I liked Into the GraveyardUser:Serprex 15:41, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Well then we can keep that as a consideration for the next time nomination comes around. YZHSig   20:06, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmm...that's a tough one. It has to be completed, otherwise I'd nominate the Random Thoughts thing. Any ideas? --Nonimportant 15:31, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Who ever said it had to be completed?User:Serprex 15:56, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Nominating incomplete stories is not a good idea, would you nominate only a section of a story? Because that's what incomplete stories are. --Nonimportant 16:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Any good poems or FanFics?User:Serprex 16:10, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Don't ask me about FanFic, I'm biased, but for poems, we could take something from Blood Orchid, it's due time for him to get some recognition. Lament of Val-Tymia would be my choice. --Nonimportant 16:17, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Great,that worksUser:Serprex 16:17, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Wow! I come back from vacation and log in to find this? This is so...wow. I can't move. F.<話して~!!>19:10, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Early April[]

What shall be the next featured fiction?

I will be selfish :) and nominate Chronicles of Kings and Knights. Well, maybe not that selfish, considering it's a co-write. (And Non, maybe we should be getting around to finishing it?)

Cheers, YZHSig   01:05, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

No! Non's mine to be finishing ZOMG!User:Serprex 02:44, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Uh...I thought I had finished CKK about three months ago? Is my memory playing dastardly tricks on me? --Nonimportant 03:18, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, so I was wrong on that point. I've now rewritten the ending a bit, added the complete tag, and added a very needed navigation bar at /9. Even though it's a very good piece of work, it's not been featured yet.

Cheers, YZHSig   14:53, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Right, but shouldn't you have to wait until May? There IS after all feature fiction in place already for April, The Man That Died of Hunger. F.<話して~!!> 14:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Entrevista con un psicoanalista (Full story) David 19:18, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm not that selfish so I think we should feature Harbinger. True, I'd never read a Starcraft novel-length fanfiction unless my very life depended on it, but Yun put so much of himself into doing that that I feel bad for the feller, and think he deserve something for his troubles. --Nonimportant 22:48, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

We're getting a lot of works nowadays. Maybe it's time to shorten the period a work stays featured, down from 1 month to half a month (about 2 weeks)? YZHSig   23:52, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

The idea of Harbinger does sound appealing there. But about the shortening of it... I'm not sure. I don't wanna have to remember it every two weeks. F.<話して~!!> 01:09, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, two weeks. And more than only one feature article. 5 - 2 = 3 would be perfect. I would know what is really worth reading here instead of browsing everything. David 19:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Which is why we should rate works more often. Come on, join in on the rating spree! YZHSig   00:42, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I suggest that there should be a Spanish Featured Article. That could motivate Spanish users. Also, as there are not many stories, it would not be hard to choose one. David 03:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

All right, here's what I've decided:

  • Feature fiction articles are kept only to three. No more and no less. It will be easier for people to browse the site without having to look through the archives.
  • Feature fiction is elected every 2 weeks. There is enough fiction on this site to allow that.
  • Featured articles in English only. Since every user on this site can contribute with a good amount of English; plus it will exclue the other languages in the archives [French, German, etc.] There also isn't enough fiction in any of the other languages to nominate every two weeks.

This discussion is closed. F.<話して~!!> 19:47, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

What? Closed the discussion before I even got to give my ideology? PfftUser:Serprex 20:20, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

What's your idea then? I closed it, seeing as I maintain it, plus everybody's ideas were flooding in a little too much. F.<話して~!!> 21:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I'm actually being asked? Er, well I don't really have anything to do with this little project beside when we all start talking about what/if we read. So anyways, I agree?User:Serprex 22:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Nice, two weeks and 3 works are fine to me. And Spanish stories are quite a mess, if you have the time to read them... David 15:15, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Human Mind Project is the next Featured Article. And, YZH, please complete it... David 20:13, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay, let's hold off on that thought for now. We've got to do the featuring the right way -- which involves voting. So once these polls are concluded, I'll create a new forum for feature fiction nominations where we can do the actual voting. 2) Please take a look at the bottom, where I've added another set of polls. Comments[]

I'd just like to leave this message to sneer at the question about genre banning. It'd be like saying "Let's only feature SciFi". Sure, most random works are horrible. But if they are, how will they get featured? If someone writes a substantial work of good surrealism, should we not allow it to be featured?User:Serprex 21:14, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

The conclusion seems to be:

  • 3 works per month
  • Good works regardless of language
  • Literature only
  • Conworlds featured by subprojects
  • Update all 3 at once
  • 3 best works of any type
  • Feature the 3 regardless of language

As for compromises, I suggest:

  • Decide per work whether it's too explicit or not
  • Works must be either complete or rated w/ 3 or higher in either category

If you have comments, please post them here. I'll get started with the new forum.

Cheers, YZHSig   22:44, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Modifications seem just enoughUser:Serprex 00:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd mention that more than ONE DAY of polling would be appropriate in case some of us are too busy to check in every day. But what the hey, I agree with the terms, except the "rated w/ 3 or higher in either category" 'cuz I'm not entirely sure what that means. --Nonimportant 00:58, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Means that an incomplete work can be voted in if it is rated 3 or higher. Which is odd, personally I think rating and genre shouldn't matter because if it isn't worthy it won't be agreed on. I'd also like to note that if you total the votes Surrealism has 2 votes just as nosurrealism has 2 votes, so the idea that Surrealism isn't allowed is silly. Besides, we've had very good things featured. Ala VampsUser:Serprex 01:02, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I guess it's a "rating incentives programme". If not for the rating minimum, ratings would be completely useless. I'm not very fan of featured incomplete works, so I guess it's just as well like that. --Nonimportant 01:46, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Greetings everyone,

I made a change to the nominating rules. Now you may nominate for more than one work. This is because, assuming a response from 4 people per feature fiction/month, I'd expect 3 nominations, and so regardless of quality they'd be accepted. Now you can nominate as many as you want, and because you can already vote on all of them rather than dividing your votes among favorites, we can have a better reflection of just what works most people like rather than the political divide and conquer phenomena. Please do nominate and vote for multiple works.

In case of tie between 3rd and 4th+, we'll go with the one that was nominated later, and save the thought about the earlier one for the next month. Is that okay?

Cheers, YZHSig   13:01, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

In the case that any story can be nominated, yesUser:Serprex 13:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Greetings everyone,

Serprex is right when saying that +surrealism also has 2 votes. How's this compromise? We allow surreal works to be featured provided that there's sizeable description about what the particular work is supposed to be about/supposed to mean/supposed to be read as. This description should also include hints about any major metaphors that the work uses, for clarification purposes. I find it hard to feature the works otherwise as some users on this site may not comprehend the surrealism and mistakenly interpret it as being "amateur trash". So, how does that sound?

Cheers, YZHSig   14:03, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Works, since it can have that explanation added on if ever a surrealism is able to be nominated along side all those genres that are more well crafted in quality assuranceUser:Serprex 19:08, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
