Nomination[]

  • Well... I know about wiki markup and stuff like that. I'd like to help out basically. I've created three wikias, so I know how to use admin tools and it's not particularly a big deal. But since we've (very) recently had a new administrator we might not need another one at this moment of time. --Melon247 18:01, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

  • Support! Why not? --Millenian
  • Against. A couple reasons:
    • We already have six admins, which are practically half the contributors on this site, which is more than enough to meet of all our anti-vandalism, page-moving, and page-deletion needs. We don't need more admins.
    • Furthermore, we must have a standard when it comes to deciding who's allowed to become an admin. All current admins have made a few thousand edits over the course of a year or more, and along the way produced some major works - this is how one shows to the community that one has a serious dedication to this site, and for good reason too. I don't want this to become another Fythring. 150 edits simply isn't enough. If we set the bar at 150, that makes for another 30-40 potential admins - and I don't think that's desirable.
    • Toward that end I'd like to see Melon stay on this site, and make at least another 1000 contributions over the course of several more months. Then we can take another look at Melon's qualifications. I'm not saying that Melon is unreliable in any way; I'm just saying that admins have certain standards that they must uphold if membership in that group is to amount to anything in the eyes of the community. Sysopping isn't something to be taken lightly. - YZHSig   16:00, September 6, 2009 (UTC)

Discussion[]

"If you have a record of good editing then you are likely to be trusted and be granted the privileges administrators have." <-- I think this is a reasonable basis upon which to select administrators. If there is going to be some arbitrary number of required edits, then that requirement should be established by community discussion and consensus and posted at Forum:Before You Request for Adminship. --JWSchmidt 19:43, September 6, 2009 (UTC)
